I have worked in many organisations that proudly claim to be “Trauma-Informed.” The reality? Many of them are anything but. In fact, some of the most harmful environments I’ve ever witnessed — and personally experienced — were the very places preaching trauma-informed values while practising behaviours that were, in truth, deeply traumatising.

So what does this gap between branding and behaviour really reveal about our systems, our culture, and the power dynamics that shape them?

Our latest BTA blog, “The Illusion of Being Trauma-Informed: A Closer Look at Empty Claims,” takes you behind the polished statements and glossy policies — into the uncomfortable truth that too many organisations weaponise the language of trauma without embodying the principles.

If we are serious about safeguarding, integrity, and survivor-centred care, then the conversation starts here.

A new Europe-wide report has revealed staggering numbers of child sexual abuse — not just in homes and institutions, but across digital spaces that most systems still aren’t prepared to police or protect. One in fifteen children in Europe has already been raped or sexually assaulted before adulthood.

This isn’t just data — it’s a mirror. What does it say about how our systems respond to trauma, technology, and power?

Read our latest BTA blog “When Five Million Children Are the Hidden Toll of Our Digital Age” — and join the discussion on what trauma-informed, survivor-centred safeguarding must look like now.
