<p>As part of your journey through the BeyondTrauma Recovery Programme, I want to gently remind you that healing isn’t just about understanding, it’s about <em>experiencing safety in your body</em>.</p>
<p>One of the tools I’ve shared with you is this guided somatic visualisation. This is something you can return to anytime you need to regulate, ground, or simply reconnect with yourself in a safe and supportive way.</p>
<p><strong>Click on the Link to Access the YouTube Video: <a href="https://youtu.be/FCi7__I8Itw?si=m7chw8wlhWnYzmrA" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://youtu.be/FCi7__I8Itw?si=m7chw8wlhWnYzmrA</a></strong></p>
<p>&#x1f4ad; <strong data-start="616" data-end="645">How to use this practice:</strong></p>
<ul data-start="648" data-end="858">
<li data-section-id="8kc34s" data-start="648" data-end="683">Find a quiet, comfortable space</li>
<li data-section-id="1eitasu" data-start="684" data-end="744">Allow yourself to settle without pressure or expectation</li>
<li data-section-id="9rq17y" data-start="745" data-end="815">Follow along at your own pace, there is no “right” way to do this</li>
<li data-section-id="1xp9tu5" data-start="816" data-end="858">Pause if needed, or return to it later</li>
</ul>
<p>&#x1f33f; <strong data-start="863" data-end="884">Why this matters:</strong><br data-start="884" data-end="887" />This practice supports your nervous system in moving from a place of distress into a place of calm and safety. Over time, these moments build — helping your body learn that it <em>can</em> feel safe again.</p>
<p>&#x1f4ac; <strong data-start="1090" data-end="1116">Reflection (optional):</strong><br data-start="1116" data-end="1119" />If you feel comfortable, share below:</p>
<ul data-start="1159" data-end="1312">
<li data-section-id="1fdl6lv" data-start="1159" data-end="1203">How did your body feel before and after?</li>
<li data-section-id="1eukiv" data-start="1204" data-end="1263">Did anything stand out to you during the visualisation?</li>
<li data-section-id="17lea8k" data-start="1264" data-end="1312">Would this be something you’d return to again?</li>
</ul>
<p>Remember, your coping toolbox is personal. This is just one of many tools — take what supports you, and leave what doesn’t.</p>
<p>You’re doing incredibly important work just by showing up to this process. &#x1f90d;</p>

<p>One of the most powerful parts of your journey is discovering what genuinely helps <em>you</em> feel calmer, safer, and more in control.</p>
<p>In this session, we explored some key tools:</p>
<ul data-start="370" data-end="415">
<li data-section-id="16tnzxu" data-start="370" data-end="382"><strong data-start="372" data-end="382">Drop 3</strong></li>
<li data-section-id="ydpp3h" data-start="383" data-end="398"><strong data-start="385" data-end="398">Grounding</strong></li>
<li data-section-id="12v35z1" data-start="399" data-end="415"><strong data-start="401" data-end="415">Safe Space</strong></li>
</ul>
<p>These aren’t just techniques to learn once, they’re tools to <em>practice</em>, return to, and make your own, creating your own toolbox, that you can dip into when needed!</p>
<p>&#x1f4ad; <strong data-start="525" data-end="571">I invite you to gently explore:</strong></p>
<ul data-start="572" data-end="792">
<li data-section-id="146ar8p" data-start="572" data-end="629">Which of these feels most natural or effective for you?</li>
<li data-section-id="bqvrxi" data-start="630" data-end="698">When you feel your distress rising, which one helps bring it down?</li>
<li data-section-id="ntvkor" data-start="699" data-end="792">What helps you move closer to your <strong data-start="736" data-end="747">“0 box”</strong> — that place of calm, safety, or neutrality?</li>
</ul>
<p>&#x2728; Your “0 box” will look different for everyone. It might be:</p>
<ul data-start="856" data-end="1055">
<li data-section-id="1b8sd8h" data-start="856" data-end="889">A certain thought or reminder</li>
<li data-section-id="b2k57" data-start="890" data-end="945">A physical action (like movement, breath, or touch)</li>
<li data-section-id="f0z0qa" data-start="946" data-end="967">A memory or image</li>
<li data-section-id="1qo0iy8" data-start="968" data-end="998">A place (real or imagined)</li>
<li data-section-id="2binkc" data-start="999" data-end="1055">Even something simple like a sound, smell, or object</li>
</ul>
<p>There’s no right or wrong here, just <em>what works for you</em>.</p>
<p>&#x1f4ac; <strong data-start="1121" data-end="1162">If you feel comfortable, share below:</strong></p>
<ul data-start="1163" data-end="1283">
<li data-section-id="7xqhbm" data-start="1163" data-end="1205">Which technique you’ve been practicing</li>
<li data-section-id="jjkjle" data-start="1206" data-end="1243">What you noticed when you used it</li>
<li data-section-id="bqekpa" data-start="1244" data-end="1283">What helps bring your distress down</li>
</ul>
<p>Your insights might help someone else discover something that works for them too &#x1f90d;</p>
<p>Take your time with this. Even noticing a small shift is meaningful.<br /><br />Here is a visual of my favourite gold Technique that I teach you in this programme - Drop 3</p>

<p>We are honoured to share this case study, contributed through the Survivors Action Forum.</p>
<p>@bex story reflects lived experiences of harm spanning from early childhood into adulthood, alongside repeated failures across multiple systems including education, healthcare, mental health services, and safeguarding. <span class="" data-state="closed"></span></p>
<p>Throughout her journey, disclosures were often minimised, dismissed, or not acted upon, resulting in delayed protection, misdirected care, and compounded trauma. <span class="" data-state="closed"></span></p>
<p>This case study has been shared to support learning, reflection, and change.</p>
<h2 data-section-id="e3ye6u" data-start="959" data-end="993"><span><strong data-start="962" data-end="993">Why This Case Study Matters</strong></span></h2>
<p>Bex’s experience highlights important patterns that many survivors face within systems:</p>
<ul data-start="1084" data-end="1364">
<li data-section-id="1w5d4rr" data-start="1084" data-end="1131">Disclosures not being believed or escalated</li>
<li data-section-id="12q9kv3" data-start="1132" data-end="1178">Trauma being misunderstood or misdiagnosed</li>
<li data-section-id="kkd2f2" data-start="1179" data-end="1241">Services focusing on symptoms rather than lived experience</li>
<li data-section-id="13ctm82" data-start="1242" data-end="1306">Unsafe or retraumatising environments within support systems</li>
<li data-section-id="1i9tafs" data-start="1307" data-end="1364">A lack of trauma-informed, survivor-centred responses</li>
</ul>
<p>It also shows the difference that <strong data-start="1400" data-end="1443">safe, validating, and advocacy-led care</strong> can make when it is provided. <span class="" data-state="closed"></span></p>
<h2 data-section-id="1l5zk6f" data-start="1520" data-end="1557"><span><strong data-start="1523" data-end="1557"><br />Survivor Contribution &amp; Impact</strong></span></h2>
<p>We extend our sincere gratitude to Bex for sharing her experience.</p>
<p>Her contribution has directly informed the development of <strong data-start="1685" data-end="1729">survivor-led resources for professionals</strong>, now available within the BeyondTrauma Advisory Network (BTAN).</p>
<p>These resources are supporting:</p>
<ul data-start="1827" data-end="1939">
<li data-section-id="sed44u" data-start="1827" data-end="1864">Improved trauma-informed practice</li>
<li data-section-id="1en6j6p" data-start="1865" data-end="1903">Greater awareness of systemic harm</li>
<li data-section-id="13jgqo0" data-start="1904" data-end="1939">Safer, more responsive services</li>
</ul>
<h2 data-section-id="1b4phmx" data-start="2073" data-end="2096"><span><strong data-start="2076" data-end="2096">A Note on Safety</strong></span></h2>
<p>This case study contains themes related to abuse, systemic harm, and trauma.</p>
<p>Please take your time when reading, and engage only if it feels right for you.</p>
<h3 data-section-id="lqub6y" data-start="2261" data-end="2295"><span>&#x1f33f; <strong data-start="2268" data-end="2293">With gratitude to Bex</strong></span></h3>
<p>Your voice is contributing to meaningful change and helping shape safer systems for others.</p>

<p>Advocacy Pathways for Survivors with Complex Needs is a professional guidance resource designed to support effective, survivor-centred advocacy across multiple systems. It recognises that survivors with intersecting vulnerabilities often face fragmented services, conflicting thresholds, and increased risk of retraumatisation. This guide offers practical frameworks for coordinating multi-agency support, amplifying survivor voice, and navigating health, housing, justice, and social care systems ethically and transparently. By focusing on collaboration, consent, and clarity, the resource supports professionals to reduce systemic harm and improve outcomes for survivors with complex needs.</p>
