<p>We are honoured to share this case study, contributed through the Survivors Action Forum.</p>
<p>@bex story reflects lived experiences of harm spanning from early childhood into adulthood, alongside repeated failures across multiple systems including education, healthcare, mental health services, and safeguarding. <span class="" data-state="closed"></span></p>
<p>Throughout her journey, disclosures were often minimised, dismissed, or not acted upon, resulting in delayed protection, misdirected care, and compounded trauma. <span class="" data-state="closed"></span></p>
<p>This case study has been shared to support learning, reflection, and change.</p>
<h2 data-section-id="e3ye6u" data-start="959" data-end="993"><span><strong data-start="962" data-end="993">Why This Case Study Matters</strong></span></h2>
<p>Bex’s experience highlights important patterns that many survivors face within systems:</p>
<ul data-start="1084" data-end="1364">
<li data-section-id="1w5d4rr" data-start="1084" data-end="1131">Disclosures not being believed or escalated</li>
<li data-section-id="12q9kv3" data-start="1132" data-end="1178">Trauma being misunderstood or misdiagnosed</li>
<li data-section-id="kkd2f2" data-start="1179" data-end="1241">Services focusing on symptoms rather than lived experience</li>
<li data-section-id="13ctm82" data-start="1242" data-end="1306">Unsafe or retraumatising environments within support systems</li>
<li data-section-id="1i9tafs" data-start="1307" data-end="1364">A lack of trauma-informed, survivor-centred responses</li>
</ul>
<p>It also shows the difference that <strong data-start="1400" data-end="1443">safe, validating, and advocacy-led care</strong> can make when it is provided. <span class="" data-state="closed"></span></p>
<h2 data-section-id="1l5zk6f" data-start="1520" data-end="1557"><span><strong data-start="1523" data-end="1557"><br />Survivor Contribution &amp; Impact</strong></span></h2>
<p>We extend our sincere gratitude to Bex for sharing her experience.</p>
<p>Her contribution has directly informed the development of <strong data-start="1685" data-end="1729">survivor-led resources for professionals</strong>, now available within the BeyondTrauma Advisory Network (BTAN).</p>
<p>These resources are supporting:</p>
<ul data-start="1827" data-end="1939">
<li data-section-id="sed44u" data-start="1827" data-end="1864">Improved trauma-informed practice</li>
<li data-section-id="1en6j6p" data-start="1865" data-end="1903">Greater awareness of systemic harm</li>
<li data-section-id="13jgqo0" data-start="1904" data-end="1939">Safer, more responsive services</li>
</ul>
<h2 data-section-id="1b4phmx" data-start="2073" data-end="2096"><span><strong data-start="2076" data-end="2096">A Note on Safety</strong></span></h2>
<p>This case study contains themes related to abuse, systemic harm, and trauma.</p>
<p>Please take your time when reading, and engage only if it feels right for you.</p>
<h3 data-section-id="lqub6y" data-start="2261" data-end="2295"><span>&#x1f33f; <strong data-start="2268" data-end="2293">With gratitude to Bex</strong></span></h3>
<p>Your voice is contributing to meaningful change and helping shape safer systems for others.</p>
