We Cannot Keep Asking Victims to Trust a System That Keeps Showing Them Why They Shouldn’t

When children report rape, go through the criminal justice process, and the outcome still leaves survivors asking “where is the justice?”, we have a serious problem. Women and girls are not reluctant to report because they lack courage. They are reluctant because they have seen what happens when courage is not met with accountability. This case is not just about one sentence — it is about trust, public safety, and whether victims of sexual violence can believe the system will treat their trauma with the seriousness it deserves.
