Trauma Recovery, Self Advocacy & Systems Change - Led By Survivors

Welcome to BeyondTrauma Academy CIC, a survivor-led social enterprise supporting women affected by trauma, abuse, and systemic disadvantage. We deliver trauma-informed recovery programmes and the BeyondTrauma Voice, Rights & Self-Advocacy Model, while working across systems – including healthcare, criminal justice, and social care – to improve how survivors are supported.

what We Do

We work across individuals and systems to create meaningful, lasting change:

Trauma Recovery

Structured, trauma-informed programmes that support women to stabilise, understand their experiences, and move forward, without needing to revisit traumatic events.

Voice, Rights & Self-Advocacy

Through the BeyondTrauma Voice, Rights & Self-Advocacy Model, we support women to build confidence, understand their rights, and communicate their needs within complex systems.

Systems Change & Professional Development

We work with organisations across healthcare, criminal justice, social care, and education to co-design trauma-informed approaches rooted in lived experience, and create structured spaces for reflection that strengthen responses across systems.

Where We Work

Women in and Beyond Custody

Supporting women in custody, at risk of custody, and transitioning back into the community.

Community & Recovery Settings

Delivering trauma-informed support within community-based services and recovery environments.

Cross-System Professional Practice

Working across healthcare, criminal justice, social care, and education to improve responses to trauma.

Why Our Approach Is Different

BeyondTrauma Academy CIC was built from lived experience and designed to work where traditional approaches often fall short.

Our work is shaped by lived experience, ensuring everything we deliver is relevant, safe, and grounded in reality.

No Need to Revisit Trauma

Our programmes focus on stabilisation and understanding, removing the need to relive traumatic experiences.

Built for Real-World Systems

We work across healthcare, criminal justice, social care, and education — designing approaches that work within complex systems.

Testimonials

Proof That Healing Is Possible

About Our Founder

BeyondTrauma Academy CIC was founded by Mayameen Meftahi BEM from Mayameen’s lived experience of surviving child sexual abuse. Her journey from trauma to healing inspired a mission: to create a survivor-led organisation that transforms trauma into empowerment — for individuals, professionals, and communities worldwide.

Before publicly sharing her story, Mayameen had already begun shaping change behind the scenes. She delivered a TEDx talk and lectured at The Queen’s Nursing Institute, advocating for trauma-informed care while maintaining her anonymity.

In 2018, Mayameen made the courageous decision to waive her anonymity. After her father was released from prison having served only six out of ten years — despite being refused parole for two years — she realised the system was no longer able to protect her. Determined to protect herself, her children and break the silence, she stepped forward publicly, turning her lived experience into a powerful catalyst for change.

Since then, Mayameen has become a visible advocate for survivor-led reform:

🏛 Successfully campaigned for the UK’s first-ever child refuge for victims of sexual abuse, with the motion passed in Wales

📺 Featured in a Channel 5 documentary raising awareness of child sexual abuse

🎖 Awarded the British Empire Medal for services to victims of trauma

Her lived experience, combined with professional expertise, fuels BeyondTrauma Academy CIC’s unique approach: blending healing, leadership, and systemic change. Mayameen’s vision is clear — survivors should not only survive, but thrive, and the systems around them should be equipped to make that possible.
