Information shouldn't be another barrier.

Navigating police, safeguarding, complaints processes and other professional systems can feel confusing and overwhelming, particularly when you are already carrying the impact of trauma or abuse.

You may find yourself wondering:

    • What are my rights?
    • What happens if I report?
    • Why haven’t I received an update?
    • Can I challenge a decision?
    • How do I access information held about me?
    • How does a complaints process work?
    • What are my options?
    • Where do I even begin?

Finding clear, understandable information shouldn’t add another layer of stress.

That’s why we created Survivor Information Sessions (SIS).

What Are Survivor Information Sessions?

Survivor Information Sessions are focused, trauma-aware online sessions designed to make complex rights, processes and systems easier to understand.

Each session focuses on one specific topic, giving you clear, accessible information and the opportunity to ask general questions.

Sessions are delivered via Zoom. You can simply attend, listen and learn — there is no pressure to speak, share your experience or have your camera on.

Our sessions are built around three simple principles:

Understand

Clear, plain-English information to help you understand rights, processes and what to expect.

Explore

Learn about the options and possible next steps available to you, without pressure to take action.

Educate

Build your knowledge of rights, systems and processes so you can make informed decisions with greater confidence.

Information to help you understand. Knowledge to help you decide.

Survivors Information Sessions (SIS)

Information Without Pressure

We understand that systems connected to trauma and abuse can be emotionally difficult to navigate.

Our sessions are therefore designed around choice, information and emotional safety.

We will never pressure you to:

  • Report an experience
  • Make a complaint
  • Challenge a decision
  • Disclose personal information
  • Take a particular course of action

Our role is to help you understand the process and your options.

What you choose to do with that information remains entirely your decision.

How SIS works:

1. Choose Your Session

Browse the available information sessions and select the topic you would like to understand better.

2. Join the Waiting List

Register your interest using the short form for that session.

There is no commitment to attend at this stage.

3. We Schedule the Session

Rather than running sessions on fixed dates regardless of demand, we schedule sessions when sufficient interest has been received.

Everyone on the waiting list will then be contacted with the next available date.

4. Join Us Online

Sessions are delivered remotely via Zoom.

You are welcome to simply listen. Cameras and participation are optional.

5. Access Further Resources

Where available, we will share relevant resources and information to help you continue learning after the session, including access to our Survivors Peer Support Forum, where you can explore further resources, guidance and peer support.

What SIS Is — and What It Isn't:

SIS provides:
  • General information and awareness
  • Plain-English explanations
  • Information about rights and processes
  • Practical guidance
  • General questions and discussion
  • Relevant resources and signposting
SIS does not provide:
  • Individual case advice
  • Legal advice or representation
  • Advocacy or case management
  • Therapy or counselling
  • Crisis or emergency intervention
  • Individual assessment of your case
  • Guaranteed outcomes

Survivor Information Sessions are educational sessions and should not be treated as a substitute for independent legal or specialist advice where this is required.

Who Can Attend?

SIS is for adult survivors (18+) wanting to better understand rights, processes or systems connected to trauma, abuse or victimisation.

You can attend one or multiple sessions, and you do not need to use any other BeyondTrauma service to take part.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to tell you what happened to me?

No. SIS is educational rather than case-based. You will never be required to share your trauma or abuse history with the group.

Do I need to speak during the session?

No. Participation is optional. You are welcome to attend simply to listen and learn.

Do I have to put my camera on?

No. Cameras are optional.

When will the session take place?

Sessions do not operate on fixed monthly dates. Once sufficient interest has been received for a topic, we will arrange a session and contact those on the waiting list.

You can register your interest in any SIS topics that are relevant to you.

Are SIS sessions therapy or support groups?

No. Survivor Information Sessions provide information, education and general guidance. They are not therapy, counselling or peer-support groups.

Can you advise me about my individual case?

SIS facilitators can answer general questions about the topic being discussed but cannot assess or advise on individual cases.

Where your circumstances require individual legal, advocacy or specialist support, we may provide general signposting.

What if I need urgent help?

SIS is not a crisis or emergency service.

If you require urgent support, please contact:

  • Emergency services (999)
  • NHS 111
  • Your GP
  • Local crisis services
  • An appropriate emergency support organisation
